Save the Environment Ethiopia (SEE) is a non-governmental non-profit organization operating in Ethiopia in the fields of environmental protection, alternative energy provision, WASH, Shelter construction and livelihood enhancement. SEE is operating in five operational refugee camps found in two Woreda administrations, Bokolmayo and Dollo Ado. SEE has so far achieved remarkable achievement in implementing various environment energy projects including Solar Grids and fuel-efficient technologies in Melkadida refugee operation.Β
ACCOUNTABILITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Functional Responsibilities:
β’ Drives trucks and other vehicles in strict adherence to internal security rules and national traffic laws; drives efficiently to minimize fuel consumption and use of material.
β’ Constantly monitors security conditions on the road.
β’ Is accountable for the cargo under their supervision, from signing of the waybill to delivery.
β’ Loads and unloads the truck or supervises loading and unloading.
β’ Checks that trip have been authorized where necessary.
β’ Immediately reports accidents, defects and/or missing equipment to management.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES
Security

Informs Car Dispatcher about time of departure and return to the base

Makes sure that truck is parked in safe area all the time

Is aware of, and reacts to the current security situation
-
Respects the laws in general and traffic regulations in particular
-
Use the security belt and oblige passenger to use it
-
Avoids using mobile phones while driving and respects radio communication procedures
Fuel
-
Ensures that the truck is always refuelled on time
-
Drives in manner that minimizes fuel consumption and maintains vehicle in good condition
-
Fills in refuelling data in logbook and fuel control sheets
-
Hands over any fuel bills to dispatcher at the end of the trip
Load responsibility
-
When applicable, is present at the loading and unloading of goods and confirms that the quantity corresponds with relevant documentation

Is responsible for goods documentation
-
At unloading presents documentation to the receiver of the goods to be signed and returns it to dispatcher/log
-
Participate to the loading and unloading of his Truck if needed or requested.
General
-
Drives in safe, responsible and accident free manner
-
Adapts the way of driving to the weather and road conditions
-
Reports to dispatcher about road conditions, eventual problems etc.

Reports vehicle accidents immediately using appropriate forms (including minor scratches)
Others
-
Replaces other driver during their absence

Performs any other activities upon request of immediate supervisor

Flexibility and Willingness to work irregular schedules

Helpful attitude
Minimum Certification / Education Required
-
High school graduate
-
Driving license Dereq-level-2 grade
-
Knowledge of Somaali language is MandatoryΒ
-
Very good command of spoken & written English and Amharic
Professional Experience required
-
Good knowledge of the security situation and terrain in the area of assignment.
-
Minimum 5 years’ experience as a truck driver.
-
Ability to change a tyre and carry out other minor repairs on the road.
