Mother and Child Development Organization is a non-governmental, non-political, non-religious and non-profit making indigenous organization established to improve the livelihood of impoverished women and children directly working at the grass root level with the local communities to address their needs and to enhance sustainable development in Somali region and Ethiopia since 1997.

About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Finance Officer to join our team. The Finance Officer will be responsible for managing the financial operations of the organization, ensuring compliance with financial policies and procedures, and providing accurate and timely financial reporting. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in finance, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment. 

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Financial Management:
     
    • Manage day-to-day financial operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll.
       
    • Prepare and maintain accurate financial records and reports.
       
    • Monitor and manage cash flow to ensure the organization’s financial stability.
       
  2. Budgeting and Forecasting:
     
    • Assist in the preparation of annual budgets and financial forecasts.
       
    • Monitor budget performance and provide regular updates to management.
       
    • Identify and address any financial discrepancies or issues.
       
  3. Financial Reporting:
     
    • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
       
    • Ensure timely submission of financial reports to donors, management, and regulatory authorities.
       
    • Conduct financial analysis to support decision-making and strategic planning.
       
  4. Compliance and Audit:
     
    • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal financial regulations.
       
    • Coordinate and support internal and external audits.
       
    • Implement and maintain internal controls to safeguard the organization’s assets.
       
  5. Grant and Donor Management:
     
    • Manage financial aspects of grants and donor-funded projects.
       
    • Prepare financial reports for donors and ensure compliance with grant requirements.
       
    • Monitor grant expenditures and ensure proper allocation of funds.
       
  6. Team Collaboration:
     
    • Work closely with program managers and other staff to provide financial guidance and support.
       
    • Train and mentor staff on financial policies and procedures.
       
    • Participate in organizational planning and strategy development.

About the Candidate

The ideal candidate is a highly organized and detail-oriented professional with a strong background in finance and accounting. He / She should possess excellent analytical skills, a thorough understanding of financial regulations, and the ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment. The candidate must be committed to maintaining the highest standards of financial integrity and transparency.

Required Skills

  1. Education: Bachelor’s degree/Master’s in Finance, Accounting, or a related field. 
     
  2. Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in finance or accounting, preferably in a non-profit or NGO setting.
     
  3. Technical Skills: Proficiency in financial software and advanced Excel skills.
     
  4. Language: Fluency in English and Somali (written and spoken) is required. Proficiency in additional languages is an asset.
     
  5. Computer Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and financial management systems.
