Project Title: Promoting Awareness and Implementation of the African Union Transitional Justice Policy in Ethiopia 

Introduction 

The Advocacy Center for Democracy and Development (ACDD), established in Ethiopia on April 3, 2020 (registration number 4867), is dedicated to advancing peacebuilding, conflict resolution, human rights protection, democratic culture, inclusive development, and local community empowerment through evidence-based advocacy. ACDD, in collaboration with the African Transitional Justice Legacy Fund (ATJLF) and with the support of the EU-funded initiative for transitional justice in Africa, is implementing a project titled β€œPromote the Awareness and Implementation of the African Union Transitional Justice Policy (AUTJP) in Ethiopia.”. As part of this initiative, ACDD is organizing a Training of Trainers (ToT) program to enhance participants’ understanding of the AUTJP’s principles and concepts, particularly in the Ethiopian context. 

This training targets individuals working with academia or civil society organizations (CSOs) actively working in Addis Ababa, Amhara, Oromia, Somali, and Tigray regions. 

Objectives of the ToT program 

  • Build the capacity of participants to understand, analyze, and apply the AUTJP principles in their local contexts.

  • Equip participants with the knowledge and skills to disseminate training outcomes effectively. 

  • Foster community engagement in transitional justice initiatives to promote peace and reconciliation. 

Training Dates and Venue: 

Dates: Tentatively from January 21–24, 2025 

Location: Addis Ababa, Ethiopia

Eligibility and Selection Criteria 

Participants will be selected based on the following criteria: 

  • Must be actively working with academic institutions or CSOs in the regions of Addis Ababa, Amhara, Oromia, Somali, and Tigray.

  • Demonstrated experience or strong commitment to transitional justice, and peacebuilding.

  • Clear interest in understanding the AUTJP and its relevance to Ethiopia. 

  • Commitment to applying the knowledge gained to benefit their communities and organizations. 

  • Willingness to fully dedicate time to participate in the program and follow-up activities.

  • Ability to understand English.
