About Armauer Hansen Research Institute (AHRI) 

The Armauer Hansen Research Institute (AHRI) is a medical research institute established in 1970 by the Government of Ethiopia in collaboration with Save the Children Organizations of Norway and Sweden, and University of Bergen. It was named after the Norwegian physician, Gerhard Henrik Armauer Hansen, who first described the leprosy bacillus (Mycobacterium leprae). ARHI was initially established to investigate the pathogenesis and human immune responses of leprosy. However, it undertakes medical research in a wide range of diseases such as tuberculosis, malaria, antimicrobial resistance, HIV various cancers, and other non-communicable conditions. The Institute focuses on responding to emerging and re-emerging diseases through health research and innovation. In addition, the Institute also places due emphasis on research on non-communicable diseases vaccine research and development and traditional and modern medicine. The research activities are organized and carried out under seven Research Directorates. 

Background and purpose of the vacancy:

AHRI in collaboration with local and international partners is planning to undertake a project entitled ” Impact of a cryptosporidiosis point-of-care test-and-treat strategy in children with diarrhoea (CryptoT&T) “. The project is funded by the Global Health (GH) European and Developing Countries Clinical Trials Partnership (EDCTP) 3 and is a collaboration between partners in Ethiopia, Norway and Mozambique.  We are looking for dedicated and highly motivated associate researcher with relevant interest and experience in clinical research/clinical trial. The associate researcher will be based at the Communicable and Non-Communicable Diseases Research Directorate (CNCDRD).

Responsibilities:

  • Closely work with the principal investigator and the project team in the development of the study protocol and related documents. 

  • Assist the principal investigator and organize project implementation plans, Trial master file, and oversight of trail protocol submission/ approval process to IRB/ RA.

  • Streamline the research team and ensure proper management of trail related documents including Investigational products 

  • Conduct and lead clinical examinations and medical follow-up of study participants.       

  • Conduct and coordinate other clinical procedures required in a study protocol. 

  • Conduct and/or Lead data collection, CRF completion, verify and review clinical data

  • Organize project-specific trainings and ensure implementation of the project in line with good clinical practice guideline 

  • Monitor and supervise daily activity of the trial sites including participants screening and recruitment, 

  • Ensure eligibility of study participants and monitor enrolments procedure and take corrective measure as per the protocol 

  • Ensure that the medical records are clearly documented and monitor safety of study participants and report any protocol deviation including AEs

  • Ensure that other trail related data forms are properly documented, completed and reported 

  • Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned by the director and/or the principal investigator.

Qualifications:

  • MD with at least three years of work experience in clinical service and participation in clinical trials projects. Additionally, MPH or MSc in clinical trial (preferred) will be an asset. 

  • BSc in Health Sciences (Nursing, Public Health) and MSc in Clinical Trail

  • Updated certification on current ICH/GCP guidelines and working knowledge of applicable country-specific regulations of trial projects.

Number required: 1 (One)

Terms of employment: one year contract period with full time employment basis with possibility of extension based on performance and budget availability

Salary: As per the scale of the institution.
