Emory University, as a member of the Saving Little Lives 360(SLL 360) consortium that include Addis Ababa, Hawassa, and Mekelle Universities and the ministry of health, supported by the NEST360 Consortium via Rice University, USA.is implementing the SLL 360 scale up project in partnership with the Amhara Regional Health Bureau. 

  1. Job Summary

The ACS Study site coordinator will work closely with the regional coordinator and research team members to coordinate study site-based activities for ACS Implementation Research project within the SLL 360 platform facilities selected for the ACS research implementation sites in the region led by Emory university. 

With technical guidance and support from the PI, regional coordinator and site Co-PIs and site ACS implementation team, the site coordinator, will be responsible for the coordination of the site ACS study.

  1. Specific Functions and Responsibilities: 
  • Work closely with the Amhara Regional Health Bureau, woreda health offices, health facilities, community health workers, and health manager to support the implementation of the interventions included in the model at the health facilities and community levels
  • Manage the routine day-to-day operation logistics and administration aspects of the study project at the site level
  • Plan, implement, and evaluate the project implementation support, program learning, and outcome assessment activities at the study site level
  • Organize regular meetings, take notes, and routinely communicate with study managers and hospital and health center study teams
  • Facilitate trainings of health facility leadership, facility senior physicians, general practitioners, nurses, midwives, health extension workers, and the health development army on the project objectives and expectations with the research team 
  • Prepare a plan and conduct regular supervision of the day-to-day activities of Implementation Support and Learning Research Assistants (ISL-RA), and Outcome Measurement Research Assistants (OM-RA)
  • Support the implementation of standard operating procedures and protocols for the interventions and development of instruments and protocols for data collection
  • Participate in the recruitment, training, and deployment of Implementation Support and Learning Research Assistants (ISL-RA), and Outcome Measurement Research Assistants (OM-RA) 
  • Develop and submit regular and timely implementation, program learning, and outcome assessment reports
  • Supervise proper installation and use of project supplies, software, and equipment by research and hospital staff
  • Work closely with Implementation Support, Program learning, and Outcome Measurement research Assistants
  • Execute other tasks given by the ACS study manager 
  1.   Educational Qualifications & Work Experiences
  • Master’s degree or bachelor’s degree in health or related field with at least five years of experience with progressive responsibility working in large-scale research or projects/programs. Experience on implementation research projects is preferred
  • Knowledge of basic statistical methods frequently used in public health research
  • Knowledge of the Ethiopian health system, including hospitals, health centers and communities.
  • Familiarity with the Ethiopian health system, Ethiopian Ministry of Health and Regional Health Bureaus 
  • Fluent written and verbal skills in English, and Amharic languages is required.
  • Ability to work with electronic data collection and online databases and demonstrated experience managing databases.
  • Strong report writing, presentation and communication skills required.

 Additional Qualification/skills:

  • Ability to handle and prioritize multiple project activities, balance conflicting priorities, and handle confidential information appropriately. 
  • Must have the capacity to exhibit tact and diplomacy in inter-cultural settings  
  • Prior field research and academic experience related to MNH in Ethiopia is desirable. 
  • Exceptional organizational skills, and ability to give careful attention to details.
  • Prior experience working with electronic data collection, online databases, and demonstrated experience managing databases.
  1.  Working Conditions and Level of Travel Required

Level of Travel:   Frequent travel to the hospitals and catchment health facilities sites 

  in the assigned town.
