Position Overview:

The Livelihood Technical Assistant is responsible for implementing and managing programs aimed at enhancing the economic well-being of vulnerable women and families. This role includes providing training, resources, and support for income-generating activities (IGAs), facilitating self-help groups, and ensuring beneficiaries have access to the tools and knowledge necessary for sustainable livelihoods.

Key Responsibilities:

 Livelihood Program Implementation:

  • Assist women beneficiaries in developing and implementing income-generating activities (IGAs) and other economic empowerment initiatives.
  • Conduct needs assessments to identify beneficiaries’ skills and interests, and tailor support accordingly.
  • Provide ongoing support and resources to ensure successful implementation of IGAs.

Training and Capacity Building:

  • Provide training and mentorship on financial management, business skills, and life skills to help women achieve economic independence.
  • Organize  training sessions to build capacity in areas such as Basic business, market research, Saving and loan and entrepreneurship.

Self-Help Group Facilitation:

  • Facilitate the formation and functioning of Self Help Groups (SHGs), promoting peer support and collective economic activities.
  • Provide ongoing support to SHG members, helping them set savings goals and develop business plans.
  • Monitor the progress of SHGs and assist in problem-solving during group meetings.

Resource Mobilization and Market Linkages:

  • Assist beneficiaries in accessing resources such as grants, loans, and materials for their livelihood activities.
  • Establish partnerships with local businesses and organizations to facilitate market linkages and access to resources.

Monitoring and Evaluation:

  • Track the progress of beneficiaries in their livelihood activities, documenting successes and challenges.
  • Conduct regular follow-up visits to assess the impact of programs and provide support as needed.
  • Prepare reports on program outcomes, beneficiary progress, and lessons learned.

 Community Engagement and Advocacy:

  • Engage with community members to raise awareness about the importance of women’s economic empowerment.
  • Advocate for policies and programs that support vulnerable women in improving their livelihoods.

 General Responsibilities:

  • Maintain accurate records and reports of beneficiaries, training sessions, and program activities.
  • Collaborate with other program staff to ensure integrated support for beneficiaries.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the Program Manager to support the organization’s mission.
  • Duty Station:
    • West Hararghe Zone, Chiro Town
  • Contract Type: 
    • 6-month contract with the possibility of extension based on performance and program funding.
  • Education:
    • Bachelor’s degree in Development Studies, Social Work, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Experience:
    • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in livelihood programming or community development, preferably in an NGO setting.
    • Experience working with vulnerable women, particularly in economic empowerment initiatives, is highly desirable.
  • Skills:
    • Strong understanding of livelihood strategies and small business management.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Strong organizational and time management skills.
    • Intermediate and above proficiency in the following computer skills:
      • Microsoft Word
      • Microsoft Excel
      • Microsoft PowerPoint
    • Ability to prepare field reports and write letters 
    • Fluency in Afan Oromo and Amharic
    • Excellence in written English

  • Salary and Benefits
    • Gross Salary up to 30,000 ETB
      • Salary is fixed to current USD exchange rate
