The Armauer Hansen Research Institute (AHRI) was founded in 1970 through the initiative of the Norwegian and Swedish Save the Children organizations seconded by the Ministry of Health of Ethiopia. The Institute got its name from the Norwegian physician, Gerhard Henrik Armauer Hansen, who first described the leprosy bacillus (Mycobacterium leprae).AHRI is a biomedical, Research studies, Vaccine, and Traditional Medicine research institute that works in developing tools for research studies, Vaccine, prevention, control, and treatment of neglected tropical diseases and other diseases of public health importance through applied, basic biomedical research, research studies, and training.

Qualification:

  •  MSc in Diagnostic and Public Health Microbiology, Medical Biotechnology, Pharmaceutical microbiology or Immunology and related fields. 

Experience:

  • A minimum of four (4) years of progressive experience in research and development activities.

  • Five (4) publication points is mandatory.  
  • Demonstrated expertise in designing and implementing research projects, laboratory quality management systems, specimen/sample management, and laboratory operational oversight.

  • Strong experience with Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) and extensive involvement in data management and integration with research databases.

  • Proven track record of publications in peer-reviewed journals and active participation in scientific research projects and collaborations.

Skills and Abilities: 

  • Over four (4) years of progressive experience in research laboratory related activities and research and development within premier research institutions.

  • Strong expertise in designing, formulating, and implementing research projects, as well as managing laboratory quality systems aligned with international standards (e.g., ISO 15189).

  • Extensive experience in specimen and sample management, laboratory operational oversight, inventory management, and ensuring regulatory compliance in laboratory environments.

  • Proven proficiency in Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS), Laboratory Data Management Systems (LDMS), and integration of laboratory databases with research data platforms.

  • Robust track record of scientific research and publication, with multiple peer-reviewed articles published in international journals and active engagement in collaborative scientific projects and conference presentations.

  • Proven ability to supervise, mentor, and train laboratory teams, develop standard operating procedures (SOPs), and implement laboratory contingency and quality improvement plans.
