Empathy for Life Integrated Development Association (ELiDA), established in 2008 and licensed by the Authority for Civil Society Organizations (ACSO) with Certificate No. 1143, envisions a society where women and girls are socially responsible, empowered, and active participants in leadership and decision-making processes. Key Objectives of the Position

The Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI) Officer will play a pivotal role in promoting gender equality, enhancing social inclusion, and ensuring the empowerment of vulnerable women, girls, and marginalized groups. The role includes designing and implementing gender-responsive and socially inclusive strategies, integrating GESI practices across all project activities, and building the capacity of stakeholders.

  •  Two (2) -one for Dessie Project Office and one for Woldiya Project Office

Duty Stations:

  • South Wollo, Dessie Project Office, Amhara Region
  • North Wollo, Woldiya Project Office, Amhara Region

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement comprehensive strategies for gender equality and social inclusion within ELiDA’s programs.
  • Conduct regular GESI assessments to identify barriers and opportunities for different  interventions in the area.
  • Train and build the capacity of staff, partners, and community stakeholders on gender equality, social inclusion, and GESI-responsive approaches.
  • Integrate gender-responsive and socially inclusive approaches into project planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation.
  • Ensure that all project activities are aligned with national and international standards on gender equality and social inclusion.
  • Develop and maintain partnerships with local service providers, law enforcement, and community organizations to strengthen GESI response mechanisms.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of GESI activities, using appropriate tools and indicators.
  • Compile reports, case studies, and success stories that highlight lessons learned and best practices in GESI interventions.
  • Conduct community sensitization sessions to raise awareness on gender equality and social inclusion.
  • Develop and implement GBV prevention and response strategies. 
  • Provide case management services for GBV survivors, ensuring timely and confidential referrals. 
  • Conduct GBV risk assessments and identify intervention opportunities. 
  • Collaborate with local service providers and law enforcement to strengthen GBV response mechanisms. 
  • Monitor and evaluate GBV activities and compile reports and success stories. 
  • Conduct community sensitization sessions to raise awareness on GBV. 
  • Ensure compliance with ELiDA’s safeguarding policies and procedures, and promote a culture of accountability and respect
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Area Program Coordinator to support

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Master’s Degree in Gender Studies, Social Work, Sociology, Psychology, Human Rights, Development Studies, or related fields and a Minimum of 2 years of demonstrable work experience in gender equality, social inclusion, and community development in the civil society sector.
  • BA/BSC Degree in Gender Studies, Law, Political Science, Psychology, Social Work, Sociology, Human Rights, Development Studies, or related fields and a Minimum of 3 to 5 years of demonstrable work experience in Local NGO/INGO gender equality, social inclusion, and community development
  • Strong understanding of gender equality and social inclusion frameworks in civil Society sector.
  • Knowledge of national and international conventions, guidelines, and policy frameworks related to gender equality and social inclusion.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and strategic thinking skills.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills for working with diverse teams and communities.
  • Proven experience in report writing, case documentation, and knowledge sharing.
  • Proactive, self-motivated, and detail-oriented.
  • Commitment to working in and with women-led civil society organizations.
