About DANFE

Development through Adult and Non-Formal Education (DANFE) is a local organization dedicated to improving access to justice, education, and social services for vulnerable communities in Ethiopia. As part of our UNODC/EU-funded project, we are expanding our team to implement legal aid and community outreach initiatives. We are currently hiring for the following positions:

Job Summary

The Project Officer of DANFE is responsible to contribute in the effective and efficient implementation of projects that focus on improving access to justice, education, and social services for vulnerable communities in Ethiopia.  She/he will assist and provide in all the activities related to the project under the supervision of program manager, program coordinator, and also will manage a project as appropriate.

The Regional Project Officers will oversee the implementation of project activities in their assigned Woreda, ensuring compliance with project objectives, budgets, and timelines.

Key Responsibilities

  • The principal role of the lawyer is to render legal aid services to women, girls and Vulnerable groups

  • Providing free legal services in accordance with the guidelines of the Free Legal Aid Service prepared by the Organization;

  • Preparing pleadings based on the client’s needs;

  • Preparing cases for court as necessary;

  • Reporting and documenting the details of free legal aid services following the guidelines;

  • Supervising the assistant paralegals;

  • Rendering the legal aid services in accordance with the ethical standards of lawyers as stipulated in the relevant laws.

  • Manage relationships with local stakeholders, government officials, and partner organizations.

  • Ensure that all project activities align with DANFE’s goals and donor compliance standards.

  • Contribute in the preparation of proceeding, minutes and reports of various activities

  • Monitor and evaluate project progress, identify challenges, and recommend improvements.

  • Provide capacity-building support to local teams as needed.

Location: Amhara Region, Adiarkay & Tselemte Woredas, Ethiopia

Employment Type: One year Contact with possibility of extension as of the availability of fund.

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • A University degree in law (LLB) with at least 4 years of experience, licensed lawyers with experience as prosecutor as preferred;

  • Have sufficient knowledge and experience in the criminal justice system of Ethiopia; the Ethiopian criminal and procedural laws; the Constitutional right to access justice through legal aid services and the National and International legal framework on the rights of persons 

  • Experience in project management and implementation, preferably in humanitarian sectors.

  • Ability to work under pressure and in rural field settings.

  • Ability to prioritize responsibilities, carry out multiple tasks simultaneously, and meet deadlines;

  • Excellent communication skills including written communication

  • Computer literate and skills in internet usage;

  • Excellent documentation skills;
