About Armauer Hansen Research Institute (AHRI)Â
The Armauer Hansen Research Institute (AHRI) is a medical research institute established in 1970 by the Government of Ethiopia in collaboration with Save the Children Organizations of Norway and Sweden, and University of Bergen. It was named after the Norwegian physician, Gerhard Henrik Armauer Hansen, who first described the leprosy bacillus (Mycobacterium leprae). ARHI was initially established to investigate the pathogenesis and human immune responses of leprosy. However, it undertakes medical research in a wide range of diseases such as tuberculosis, malaria, antimicrobial resistance, HIV various cancers, and other non-communicable conditions. The Institute focuses on responding to emerging and re-emerging diseases through health research and innovation. In addition, the Institute also places due emphasis on research on non-communicable diseases vaccine research and development and traditional and modern medicine. The research activities are organized and carried out under seven Research Directorates.Â
Background and purpose of the vacancy:
AHRI in collaboration with local and international partners is planning to undertake a project entitled ” Impact of a cryptosporidiosis point-of-care test-and-treat strategy in children with diarrhoea (CryptoT&T) “. The project is funded by the Global Health (GH) European and Developing Countries Clinical Trials Partnership (EDCTP) 3 and is a collaboration between partners in Ethiopia, Norway and Mozambique.  We are looking for dedicated and highly motivated pediatrician with relevant interest and experience in clinical research. The pediatrician will be based at the Communicable and Non-Communicable Diseases Research Directorate (CNCDRD).
Responsibilities:

Closely work with the principal investigator and the project team in the development of the study protocol and related documents.Â

Assist the principal investigator and organize project implementation plans.

Prepare protocol deviation plan, training plan and oversight of the study protocol submission/ approval process to IRB/ RA.

Communicate with key stakeholders, project collaborators/partners and streamline the research team with Site PI.Â

Oversee implementation of trail activities and tracking progress over the project milestones and timelines and the required standard.

Lead implementation of on-going clinical research through handling clinical activities such as recruitment, screening, enrolment and follow-up of research participants.Â

Lead and provide medical care to study participants as necessary.

Participate in problem identification for research, research designing, research protocol development, data collection, analysis, interpretation and report writing.Â

Prepare and/or lead grant writing independently and/or in collaboration with senior and junior researchers in the respective directorates.Â

Lead and provide counselling and medical care of study participants as a physician.     Â

Ensure protection, care and retention of study participants during a study conduct.      Â

Follow-up, recording & reporting of AEs, NEs & SAEs as deemed necessary.  Â

Prepare clinical and project progress report.     Â

Cooperate in ensuring quality control activities in the conduct of trials.

Representing the directorate/institute in any scientific platforms for paper presentation and/or participation when applicable.

Lead and participate in manuscript preparation and publication of research outputs.

Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned by the director and/or the principal investigator.
Qualifications:
-
MD plus specialty certificate in Pediatrics with relevant 2 years’ experience in medical practice as a pediatrician.

Experience in clinical research preferably clinical trial and or knowledge of good clinical trial practice is an advantage.
