Senior office engineer plays a critical role in supporting the management and administration of construction projects from an office-based setting. They work closely with the project team, including project managers, site engineers, architects, and contractors, to ensure smooth project operations. Here is a comprehensive job description for a construction office engineer:

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Project Documentation and Control:

  • Maintain accurate and organized project documentation, including contracts, drawings, permits, and correspondence.

    • Develop and manage document control systems to ensure efficient retrieval and distribution of project-related information.

    • Track and maintain project records, such as submittals, RFIs (Requests for Information), and change orders.

    • Assist in the development and maintenance of project schedules using project management software.

    • Coordinate with the project team to ensure timely completion of project milestones and deliverables.

    • Monitor project progress and update schedules as necessary.

3. Cost Estimation and Control:

  • Assist in preparing cost estimates, budgets, and financial reports related to the project.

    • Monitor and track project costs against the budget, identifying any discrepancies or variances.

    • Prepare and review change orders, analyzing their impact on project costs.

4. Procurement and Supply Chain Management:

  • Coordinate with the procurement team to ensure timely procurement of materials, equipment, and services.

    • Track and manage the delivery of materials to the construction site.

    • Maintain inventory and manage the storage of construction materials.

    • Assist in the prequalification and selection of subcontractors.

    • Review and process subcontractor invoices and change orders.

    • Coordinate with subcontractors to ensure timely completion of their scope of work.

  • Support the implementation and enforcement of quality control procedures.

    • Assist in conducting inspections and tests to verify compliance with specifications and standards.

    • Document and address any non-conformances, working closely with the project team.

7. Communication and Collaboration:

  • Facilitate effective communication and collaboration among project team members, stakeholders, and subcontractors.

    • Assist in organizing and conducting project meetings, documenting meeting minutes, and tracking action items.

    • Maintain regular communication with the site team to address any office-related issues or concerns.

    • Assist in implementing and enforcing health and safety measures in coordination with the site team.

    • Monitor and report on safety performance, identifying and addressing any safety concerns or incidents.

    • Ensure compliance with relevant health and safety regulations.

    • Prepare regular progress reports, cost reports, and other project-related reports.

    • Analyze project data and provide insights to the project team for informed decision-making.

PERSONS SPECIFICATIONS 

A. Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree (BSc) or Master of Science (MSc) in civil engineering, construction management, or related field with four years and above work experience in construction project manager.

B. Knowledge, Skills, Competence:

  • Proven experience in a construction office engineering role or similar position.

  • Strong organizational and documentation management skills.

  • Proficiency in project management software and Microsoft Office applications.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to multitask and prioritize tasks effectively.

  • Knowledge of construction processes, codes, and regulations.

  • Familiarity with cost estimation and control techniques.

  • Understanding of health and safety regulations and practices.
