Job Title: Senior Project Accountant
About Armauer Hansen Research Institute (AHRI)Â
The Armauer Hansen Research Institute (AHRI) is a medical research institute established in 1970 by the Government of Ethiopia in collaboration with Save the Children Organizations of Norway and Sweden, and University of Bergen. It was named after the Norwegian physician, Gerhard Henrik Armauer Hansen, who first described the leprosy bacillus (Mycobacterium leprae). ARHI was initially established to investigate the pathogenesis and human immune responses of leprosy. However, it undertakes medical research in a wide range of diseases such as tuberculosis, malaria, antimicrobial resistance, HIV various cancers, and other non-communicable conditions. The Institute focuses on responding to emerging and re-emerging diseases through health research and innovation. In addition, the Institute also places due emphasis on research on communicable and non-communicable diseases. The research activities are organized and carried out under seven Research Directorates.Â
Background and purpose of the vacancy:
AHRI in collaboration with local and international partners is planning to undertake a project entitled ” Impact of a cryptosporidiosis point-of-care test-and-treat strategy in children with diarrhoea (CryptoT&T) “. The project is funded by the Global Health (GH) European and Developing Countries Clinical Trials Partnership (EDCTP) 3 and is a collaboration between partners in Ethiopia, Norway and Mozambique.  We are looking for a senior project accountant for effective financial management of the project.
 Responsibilities:
- Financial Management:
- Oversee all financial aspects of the project, including budget preparation, expenditure tracking, and financial reporting.
- Develop and implement financial policies and procedures to ensure compliance with project requirements and donor regulations.
- Monitor project finances to identify variances and address financial risks in a timely manner.
- Budgeting and Forecasting:
- Collaborate with project management team to develop project budgets and forecasts.
- Regularly review budget versus actual performance and provide recommendations for budget reallocations as needed.
- Prepare financial projections and cash flow forecasts to support project planning and decision-making.
- Grant Management:
- Work closely with project managers to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting to donors.
- Prepare financial reports and documentation for donor audits and compliance reviews.
- Coordinate with project partners and subcontractors to monitor financial expenditures and ensure adherence to grant agreements.
- Contract Management:
- Manage vendor contracts and procurement processes in compliance with project policies and procedures.
- Review and approve invoices, purchase orders, and payment requests to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Negotiate favorable terms and conditions with vendors to optimize project resources.
- Compliance and Risk Management:
- Ensure compliance with local tax laws, regulations, and accounting standards.
- Identify and mitigate financial risks through regular monitoring and assessment of internal controls.
- Provide guidance and support to project staff on financial policies, procedures, and best practices.
Qualifications:
- MA Degree in Accounting/Finance/Business Studies And minimum of 6 years of relevant work experience; OR
- BA Degree in Accounting/Finance/Business Studies And minimum of 8 years of relevant work experience.
- Financial management experience, preferably in the healthcare or international development sector.
- Demonstrated expertise in budgeting, financial reporting, and grant management.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively in a multicultural team environment.
- Proficiency in ERP and other accounting softwares and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Experience working with international donors and familiarity with donor regulations (specially EU) and compliance requirements.

Employment Type:Â one year contract period with full time employment basis with possibility of extension based on performance and budget availability
      Salary: As per the scale of the institution, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
