What We Do 

Ethiopian Capital Market Authority is established by Capital Market Proclamation No 1248/2021 as an autonomous Federal Regulatory Authority. One of the major objectives of ECMA is to ensure the existence of a capital market environment in which securities can be issued and traded in an orderly, fair, and efficient manner. ECMA, as a regulatory authority, grants licenses to any person to operate as a security exchange, derivative exchange, security depository and clearing company, capital market service provider, over-the-counter trading facility, or any other activity deemed by ECMA as a regulated activity under its jurisdiction. ECMA regulates and oversees trading in primary and secondary securities markets, the use of electronic trading platforms that deal with securities and gives recognition and oversees the activities of self-regulatory organizations. 

 Statement of the Purpose 

The position holder responsible for advancing the growth and efficiency of the capital markets by designing and executing strategies that foster innovation, attract investment, and ensure a dynamic and competitive market environment. This role also involves leading the development and implementation of comprehensive programs aimed at enhancing the skills, knowledge, and capabilities of market participants and stakeholders.

Specific Duties and Responsiblities 

  • Implement strategies that align with ECMA’s goals and objectives, identifying new opportunities and trends in the capital markets.

  • Identify potential investor bases and develop targeted strategies to attract them to the capital markets.

  • Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including issuers, investors, brokers, and regulators.

  • Work with the capacity building and communication unit to promote the capital market through events, conferences, and marketing campaigns.

  • Develop new products and services that meet the needs of investors and issuers, while reviewing applications for new offerings.

  • Conduct market research and perform benchmark reviews of other capital markets, adjusting strategies based on trends and best practices.

  • Execute plans to enhance investor awareness and competencies of market participants through targeted education campaigns and training programs.

  • Assess training needs through surveys, interviews, and consultations with market players and institutions.

  • Design educational materials and curricula based on proficiency areas, monitoring the effectiveness of training programs.

  • Coordinate the development of teaching aids and utilize various instructional techniques for effective learning.

  • Negotiate contracts with external training vendors, ensuring alignment with desired training outcomes and budgetary constraints.

  • Monitor and evaluate training effectiveness and costs, preparing budget reports and making adjustments as necessary.

  • Oversee instructors and collaborate with internal and external training providers to ensure quality skill development.

  • Bachelor Degree or above in stastics, Economics, finacial economics, public Policy or a field related to the Job function from an Accredited or recognized learning institution.
  • 6 years of relevant experience
