BACKGROUND

Kurmuk Gold Mine PLC (KGM) is a subsidiary of Allied Gold Corp, a company listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange, with mining operations in multiple countries including Ethiopia, Mali, and Côte d’Ivoire. KGM holds a Large-Scale Gold Mining License and three contiguous Exploration Licenses for its Ethiopian project. These licenses are located in western Ethiopia, approximately 750 km from Addis Ababa and about 90 km northwest of Assosa, in the Benishangul-Gumuz Regional State. KGM is currently engaged in both mine development and exploration activities at the site. 

KGM is searching for a Mine Survey Engineer with a minimum of 3 years of experience, duties will include but are not limited to the following:

  • Ensure day-to-day adherence of policies, processes, and procedures specific to the function.
  • Planning:
     
    • Perform as-constructed surveys of all mine working and infrastructure
    • Perform set-out surveys for construction of all mine working and infrastructure
    • Perform stability monitoring observation to monitor movement of pit walls and subsequent data analysis
    • Provide timely and accurate information for End of Period reporting.
    • Update and manage survey database
    • Ensure compliance with financial and purchasing/accounting system/policy and procedures and utilize effective cost control measures
    • Carry out general survey equipment maintenance.
    • Maximize equipment availability utilization by ensuring full respect of operational procedures, within the prescribed limits and specifications
    • Maintain updated written documentation on work procedures and ensure all surveyors are following laid down procedures
       
  • Technical:
     
    • Delivers on all safety commitments
    • Manage and ensure delivery of end-of-month as required
    • Participate in generating business improvement initiatives for the mine
    • Understanding of current legislation of the Mining Industry
    • Ensures innovation and continuous improvement are ongoing focus of the survey team and progressively built into plans
    • Liaise with Business Partners to ensure that a cost effective, productive and efficient harmonious relationship is maintained
    • All reasonable duties requested by management.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

Qualifications

  • A national diploma or tertiary qualification (ideally) in the field of Surveying and/or strong operational and tactical background.
  • 2 – 3 years’ experience in Surveying of which 1 years should be in a technical advisory or supervisory role, preferably the mining industry.
  • Survey technologies and tasks.
  • Survey specific knowledge.
  • Survey metrics and reporting.
  • Be in possession of an Ethiopian driver’s licence.

  • Experience in ERP systems and advanced/excellent Excel skills
  • Ability to read, sort, check, count, and verify numbers.
  • Ability to detect problems and report information to appropriate personnel
  • Written and spoken English and Amharic 
  • Able to work within tight timelines, maintaining accuracy and efficiency of assigned tasks
