With our partners, we reach more than 100 million people in need around the world, in more than 30 countries and 50 languages!  We’ve been working in Ethiopia since 2001, producing high-impact social and behaviour change communication content across themes and platforms, and supporting media around the country.

About the role

It will also involve making expert inputs into the country office’s wider strategies and support on the area of media development. Reporting to the country director, they will work closely with BBC Media Action’s project and research teams in and out of the country, as well as our multiple international and local partners, including government bodies. The responsibilities that come with this role include taking leadership of all media development projects; lead the design and delivery of capacity strengthening and related activities; work with other teams and partners to develop and use project tools for implementation and tracking; budget management and reporting; donor relations, among others.

Why work with us
We are a creative and dynamic team with an exciting work environment and culture that support and enable people to thrive. When you work with us, you’re contributing to helping tackle some of the biggest challenges facing people and communities. We offer opportunities for personal and professional growth through cross-country collaboration and support, learning and development, and a competitive pay and benefit package.

BBC Media Action works to ensure that everyone we work with remains safe during their time with us, and we operate a zero-tolerance policy concerning all forms of abuse and exploitation of vulnerable people. As this role may involve working with groups of vulnerable children, youth, and adults, mandatory training will be provided on BBC Media Action’s safeguarding policy and staff code of conduct.

Who we’re looking for
We’re looking for senior level experience in media management, with a deep understanding of, and connections in the Ethiopian media landscape. The role is a combination of technical and project management responsibilities. As such, the right candidate would have knowledge and expertise in delivering projects for healthy media ecosystems, as well as strong project management skills.  The Media Development Lead will also have strong competencies in creative leadership, decision-making, effective communication, managing relationships, analytical thinking and strategic thinking, planning and organizing, flexibility and resilience, among others. The work we do depends on partnerships with local media, authorities, donors and other partners across the development sector, making contextual knowledge very important to this role.
