Job Summary:
The Head of plant operation will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of plant operations in a high-volume manufacturing environment focused on producing printed packaging materials and labels. The ideal candidate will have a background in FMCG (Fast-Moving Consumer Goods) manufacturing, enabling them to lead the plant effectively while ensuring high-quality production, meeting tight deadlines, and controlling costs. This role demands a leader who can drive operational efficiency, maintain regulatory compliance, and implement continuous improvement initiatives to meet both customer expectations and business goals.
Key Responsibilities:
Plant Operations Management
- Oversee and direct all manufacturing processes ensuring efficient and quality-driven production.
- Develop, implement, and optimize production plans to meet the customer’s demand
- Monitor production schedules, ensure materials availability, and reduce lead times while maintaining high-quality standards.
- Maintain effective management of the plant’s resources, including labor, equipment, and materials to maximize productivity and minimize costs.
Team Leadership & Development
- Lead, develop, and inspire the plant management team, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and high performance.
- Ensure that plant teams are properly staffed, trained, and equipped to meet operational goals.
- Define roles, responsibilities, and performance targets for employees, and conduct regular performance reviews.
- Promote employee engagement, ensuring job satisfaction, and a safe and positive working environment.
Quality Assurance & Regulatory Compliance
- Ensure the production of packaging materials and labels meets both internal and customer-specific quality standards.
- Implement and enforce quality control processes to minimize defects, ensure product consistency, and meet customer requirements.
- Address quality-related issues promptly, implementing corrective actions and preventive measures.
Health, Safety & Environmental Management
- Champion plant safety protocols and ensure compliance with health and safety regulations in the manufacturing environment.
- Perform regular safety audits and risk assessments, ensuring the plant meets all relevant health, safety, and environmental laws.
- Advocate for and implement sustainable and environmentally responsible practices in the production of packaging materials and labels.
Financial & Budget Management
- Develop and manage the plant’s budget, ensuring optimal allocation of resources, cost control, and achieving financial targets.
- Monitor production costs and implement initiatives to reduce waste, energy consumption, and raw material costs without compromising product quality.
- Report financial and operational performance to senior management and suggest improvements to meet cost and production targets.
Process Improvement & Continuous Innovation
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives within the plant, using Lean, Six Sigma, or other best practices to enhance production efficiency and reduce waste.
- Evaluate current manufacturing processes and implement changes that improve throughput, reduce downtime, and optimize workflows.
- Stay up to date with the latest trends in printed packaging and labelling technologies, exploring new innovations to enhance the plant’s capabilities and product offerings.
Stakeholder & Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Collaborate with the sales, logistics, and supply chain teams to ensure that customer orders are fulfilled on time and in accordance with specifications.
- Maintain strong relationships with key customers, suppliers, and external stakeholders to ensure high standards of quality and service.
- Lead customer-facing interactions related to plant performance, product quality, and issue resolution.
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Packaging Technology, Operations Management, or a related field.
- A Master’s degree in Business Administration (MBA) or Engineering is a plus.
Experience:
- 5+ years of experience in plant management or operations, preferably within the printed packaging materials, labels, or FMCG industry.
- Strong background in high-volume manufacturing environmentsÂ
- Proven leadership in managing large-scale production teams, optimizing manufacturing processes, and improving operational efficiency.
