  • POSITION: EDUCATION OFFICER (ACCELERATED LEARNING PROGRAMME) (Ethiopian Nationals only)

  • REPORTS TO: PROGRAM OFFICER

  • LOCATION: BENISHANGUL GUMUZ 

  • START DATE: 15th February 2025

  • Duration of the assignment: Full-time for 11 MONTHS, with possibility of extension subject to funding.

PRIMARY PURPOSE OF THE POSITION: 

  • The Education Officer will be responsible for the daily implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of the EiE activities aimed at improving access to emergency primary education for children in specifically in the Benishangul Gumuz region, and with technical support to the activities in Amhara region. The Officer will oversee activities related to the Accelerated Education Programme (AEP), teacher training, community engagement, and advocacy. The role requires close collaboration with local education authorities, communities, and partners to ensure quality education is provided to children, especially in crisis contexts such as displacement and climatic shocks.

KEY RESULT AREAS: 

  • Support and implement Back to School Campaigns and community sensitization activities aimed at increasing the enrollment and retention of Out of School Children (OOSC), with a special focus on girls and children with disabilities.

  • Coordinate with local communities, schools, and stakeholders to ensure inclusive participation in these campaigns.

  • Organize teacher training on Accelerated Education Programmes (AEP) and Teaching in Crisis Contexts (TiCC), ensuring all teachers are equipped to deliver quality education in emergency settings.

  • Facilitate teacher training on Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR), conflict-sensitive education, and child protection to enhance school and community resilience to emergencies and climatic shocks.

  • Ensure that teachers are well-prepared to incorporate DRR strategies in the classroom and provide protection to vulnerable children.

  • Facilitates teachers learning circle (TLC) as a group capacity building approach.

  • Conduct parent sessions to raise awareness on child-friendly DRR, child protection, and disaster preparedness, aiming to build community resilience and support children’s education in crisis contexts.

  • Develops procurement, activity and spending plans of the project 

  • Ensures effective budget management based on existing tools (PR tracking and BvA) to avoid under or over-spending. Tracks the PR on regular basis to ensure appropriate budget management.

  • Communicates on regular basis to both the field office and/or Addis team on progresses and any challenges of the project 

  • Represents the FCA   in any coordination meetings at the local/refugee level.

  • Prepare monthly reports using the FCA template and quarterly reports in accordance with the donor’s template.

  • Provide support and share expertise with other project locations within FCA that are implementing similar activities, as needed.

Qualification:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in education, International Development, Social Sciences, or a related field. A master’s degree is an advantage.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in Education in Emergencies (EiE) or a related field, preferably in refugee/IDP contexts.

  • Experience in teacher training, curriculum development, and community-based education interventions.

  • Familiarity with Accelerated Education Programmes (AEP) and Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR).

  • Proven experience in advocacy and stakeholder engagement in an emergency context.

  • Prior related work experience in the region 

Skills:

  • Excellent project management and organizational skills.

  • Strong facilitation and communication skills, with the ability to train and work effectively with teachers, parents, and community leaders.

  • Ability to work in diverse and challenging environments.

  • Knowledge of gender-sensitive education, child protection, and inclusive education practices.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Fluency in English is required; knowledge of Amharic or other local languages is a plus.
