The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) Delegation in Ethiopia is looking to hire an experienced, highly motivated and qualified person to fill the position of Driver & Premises Maintenance Worker based in Addis Ababa.

Terms of Employment: 1 year fixed term contract with possibility of extension based on budget availability

PURPOSE

The Driver & Premises Maintenance Worker facilitates communication within and between departments. S/he helps a department run smoothly by carrying out organizational/secretarial tasks and supporting technical assistants and other staff.

GENERAL DUTIES

  • Understands and adheres to the seven Fundamental Principles of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement
  • Understands and adheres to the ICRC Code of Conduct
  • Understands the roles of the components of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement
  • Respects and observes staff regulations and security rules at all times
  • Represents the ICRC in a professional manner at all times
  • Develops and maintains a pleasant and conducive working environment with colleagues and line managers
  • Performs all duties with the highest level of confidentiality in the interest of the employees and the ICRC
  • May be asked to perform tasks not covered in this job description and to provide support to other departments when necessary

ACCOUNTABILITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

Driving Activities (Management)

  • Familiar with diplomatic tasks protocol (ie. should dress in business casual or formal attire, appearance aligns with the professional and respectful environment expected in diplomatic tasks)
  • Drives the Head of Delegation to official meetings, receptions, etc. (at times after working hours);
  • Responsible for transporting staff as requested, stepping in to replace another driver when needed.
  • Checks the conditions, cleanliness and accessories of the vehicle before and after each trip
    Observes internal security rules and national traffic laws;
  • Maintain open communication with the Line Manager and to stay updated on any last-minute changes to schedules or travel plans.
  • Follows-up of vehicle logbook and fuel consumption
  • Carry out minor vehicle maintenance and repairs, including checking fluid levels, tire pressure, and cleaning the vehicle.

Travelers and Guests

  • In coordination with relevant units, partially performs welcome service to the African Union delegation’s travelers and guests. 
  • Facilitates airport service (pick-up and drop off, arrangement for VIP facilities, luggage registration etc.)

Technical support 

  • With consultation of ADD Premises perform basic troubleshooting, repairs and maintenance (electrical, plumbing, others)
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor and to support the ADD premises team

Clerical Assistance

  • Support in attainment and renewal of passes, badges etc (AUC, International Organizations, Airport, Meetings etc);
  • Runs errands (purchases of urgent materials upon request, queries to State administrations, payment of bills etc.);
  • Assist with administrative tasks related to vehicle management, such as maintaining delivery logs and assisting with scheduling.
  • Helps in making photocopies and managing stationary and consumables for printers.

  • Automobile/3rd grade driving license with proven experience of driving (ICRC driving test will be administered).
  • Vocational certificate and 3 years work experience in a similar position
  • Good Commands of written & spoken English
  • Basic Computer skill
  • Able to use office equipment (Computer, copier, & printer etc.)
  • Good command (spoken and written) of English
  • Organized, with good communication and customer service skill, and capacity to work independently, good behavior and professionalism, 
  • experience driving diplomatic missions, international organizations, knowledge of the MFA Protocol, knowledge of locations and addresses of embassies and diplomatic missions is an asset.
