Activity Background 

Urban WASH, a $44.9M USAID-funded initiative, seeks to enhance safe, inclusive, and resilient water, sanitation, and hygiene services in urban and peri-urban areas. This activity addresses operational gaps by focusing on the operation and maintenance of fecal sludge treatment plants (FSTPs), developing training resources, and competency assessment tools to support sustainable sanitation service delivery.

This STTA will focus on developing resources for Fecal Sludge Treatment Plant Operation and Maintenance. 

Purpose of STTA

To develop and institutionalize high-quality training resources and assessment tools while strengthening EWTI trainers’ capacity to deliver effective FSTP operation and maintenance training.

Specific Tasks 

 The consultants will undertake the following activities:

Specific Tasks

  1. Needs Assessment:

    1. Review existing resources on FSTP operation.

    2. Identify technical and operational skill gaps.

  2. Curriculum Development:

    1. Design a detailed curriculum for FSTP operation and maintenance.

  3. Manual Development:

    1. Create user-friendly training manuals and guides.

  4. Competency Assessment Tools:

    1. Develop tools to assess participants’ technical skills pre- and post-training.

  5. Stakeholder Collaboration:

    1. Engage with EWTI and sector stakeholders to align training with best practices.

  6. Validation Workshops:

    1. Facilitate sessions to refine training materials.

  7. Training EWTI Staff:

    1. Conduct a Training of Trainers (ToT) on FSTP operation.

  8. Finalization and Handover:

    1. Revise materials based on feedback and submit final deliverables.

Deliverables

  • Needs assessment report identifying gaps and opportunities.

  • Approved curricula for training topic.

  • User-friendly training manual for the topic.

  • Competency assessment tools tailored to the module.

  • Validation workshop report summarizing feedback and revisions.

  • Completion report for ToT session with EWTI staff.

  • Comprehensive final report summarizing STTA activities and outcomes.

Working arrangements

The consultant will work and coordinate with Urban WASH and EWTI for training resource development, validation workshop, ToT session, and submission of deliverables.

Minimum Qualifications 

  • Advanced degree in WASH-related fields or public health.

  • Experience in curriculum development and training design.

  • Knowledge of sanitation infrastructure operation.

  • Familiarity with ToT programs.

  • Expertise in inclusive and gender-sensitive training.
