BackgroundÂ
The Nikat Charitable Association (NCA) is the only sex worker-led NGO dedicated to the welfare of female sex workers (FSWs) in the country. Over the years, in addition to being a strong advocate for FSWs, NCA has implemented a range of comprehensive programs focusing on the prevention of HIV/AIDS, the promotion of sexual and reproductive health and rights, economic empowerment, other health and social Services and advocacy and rights-based programming.Â
Drawing on the first-hand experiences of its dedicated staff and constituents, NCA delivers essential services that resonate with the specific needs of FSWs. Through collaboration with local communities and stakeholders, NCA not only facilitate critical services and support but also fosters a supportive environment that encourages social inclusion and economic empowerment. By focusing on the holistic well-being of sex workers, NCA is helping to create a more equitable society where their rights and dignity are recognized and upheldÂ
Position Overview:Â
NCA is seeking to work with candidates at the position of Communications volunteer which is an opportunity offered for young graduates to develop technical skills and gather work experience in communicationsÂ
The position holder will be responsible for all aspects of extemal and internal communications, content development and dissemination, branding, crisis communications and communications support to the leadership and programme teams of NCA The Volunteer will gain experience in building internal/external relationships with the government, communities, partners and donors, and also develop skills in various areas of communications work including writing. editing, photography, video, graphic design, social media, web site content management, print materials production and branding The volunteer is expected to take advantage of the opportunity offered for experience gathering, self-development, while providing quality service to NCAÂ
Key ResponsibilitiesÂ
- External communications: Coordinate overall communication efforts with the Government, donors, local partners and community members in alignment with relevant Nikat’s strategiesÂ
- Content development: Conceptualize, gather, synthesize, package and disseminate content for various communications platforms and to support fundraising efforts: These include success stories, interviews, case studies, photos, videos, sound bites and others.Â
- Website and Social media: Manage Nikat’s, website, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Linkedin, Develop. write, and edit engaging content for these sites: Use visually appealing photos, videos, and stories on the sites; Monitor and respond to comments, messages, and inquiries promptly and professionally: Prepare reports on social media analytics, highlighting key insights and recommendations.
- Prints: Conceptualize, develop and disseminate various print materials including brochures, newsletters, posters, booklets and others; Gather photos and infographics to facilitate graphics design of print materialsÂ
- Events: Organize/assis in organizing events including campaigns, meetings, workshops, trainings and other external networking opportunities; Disseminate print materials, and various messages at the events: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure successful event logistics and promotionÂ
- Media coverage: Create linkage with media houses, and arrange media coverage for Nikat, Develop talking points, remarks or speeches for Nikat spokes persons; Draft and distribute press releases, information summaries, media-kits, one-pagers and others as necessary during media engagementsÂ
- Internal communications: Develop and regularly share content for Nikat staff members and volunteers at all locations through Telegram, Facebook and Tik Tok as necessary, Develop internal newsletters or bulletins to keep employees informed about the organizations news and updatesÂ
- Branding: Ensure all communication works align with the branding guidelines and messaging strategies, Ensure the appropriate branding of the office drop-in centres, website, social media links, events, publications, reports, print materials and any material representing the organization.Â
- Technical support to programme and leadership team: Support leadership programme teams in editing, branding, and formatting of reports, PowerPoint presentations and other publications shared to any external audience; Support staff in understanding communication tools and best practices.Â

RequirementÂ
- Alignment with ethical standards and belief in Nikat’s vision, mission, values and work,Â
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, or other related social science field; Master’s degree desirable.Â
- No experience requiredÂ
- Fluency of speaking and writing in English and Amharic, (other additional local languages desirable).Â
- Excellent writing, editing, and content creation and followers’ engagement skills (web and social media).Â
- Proficiency in graphics applications (Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator or InDesign is a plus.).Â
- Management of social media sites including website, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Tik Tok, Linkedin, and Instagram
