Background 

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is a global public health threat and a priority to Ethiopia. To combat the threat of AMR, the Ethiopian Public Health Institute (EPHI) started a national AMR surveillance program since 2017 in collaboration with national stakeholders and international  partners. The implementation started in a phase approach. Currently EPHI is conducting the surveillance system in 26 surveillance sites with a possible expansion of sites to 41 in the coming three  years The routine surveillance system will  be upgraded  to active AMR surveillance and whole genomic surveillance system to strengthen evidence based information in both clinical and epidemiological data which will cover bacteriological, zoonotic and food safety surveillance system. 

. To this end, the EPHI would like to announce a vacancy for competent and interested individuals for AMR surveillance data analyst  position. The qualified individual will  contribute to the development and implementation of generating quality clinical & epidemiological data and report for strategies, policies, and programs & research  to address AMR threat and strengthen the One Health capacity of AMR surveillance network and key stakeholders. She/He will collaborate and work with cross-functional teams to integrate data-driven insights into AMR mitigation strategies  mainly with zoonotic AMR surveillance ,Food safety, Antimicriobial resistance consumption surveillance and animal health surveillance system  in a One Health approach. 

The intended candidates should have the following roles, responsibilities, qualifications and experiences.

Main responsibilities  

  • Data analysis: Use statistical methods to identify patterns and trends in AMR data 

  • Data visualization: Create visualizations of AMR data using mapping tools 

  • Collaboration: Work with cross-functional teams to integrate data-driven insights into AMR mitigation strategies mainly with zoonotic AMR surveillance, Food safety, Antimicrobial resistance  consumption surveillance and animal health surveillance system  in a One Health approach 

  • Monitor and manage dashboards:

  • Monitor dashboards in real time to ensure they are up-to-date and accurate 

  • Customize dashboards: Tailor dashboards to specific needs 

  • Maintain documentation: Keep track of the processes used to develop dashboards 

  • Train and support users: Provide training and support to users of the dashboards at national and site level 

  • Handle confidential data: Ensure that confidential data is handled securely

  • Monitor and manage operational dashboards in real time.

  • Ensure accurate data entry and timely updates.

  • Develop and implement Data Management Plan (DMP) and procedures 

  • Establishes data quality standards for AMR surveillance and research in a One Health approach

  • Analyse data using different statistical software such as CSPro, EPI-Info, Stata, SPSS, R etc. and web-based application for surveillance and research

  • Perform advanced statistical analysis  for heterogeneous, epidemiologic, surveillance, clinical, evaluation, biomedical  and laboratory data  and others 

  • Research and innovation: Provide technical support to AMR research activities using  up-to-date tools and methods 

  • Provide AMR data science training to staff 

  • Reporting:  Generating annual AMR surveillance reports and presentations summarizing findings 

  • Data security and ethics: Ensure data privacy and security compliance 

  • Digital tool planning: Plan and manage digital tools for AMR data capture and storage 

  • Genomics data analysis: Analyse AMR genomics surveillance  data using pipelines 

Communication and coordination

  • Communicate effectively with Infectious diseases research directorate,  and AMR coordination   teams, AMR surveillance sites, EPHI relevant directorates, relevant national stakeholders in a One Health approach  and international partners as appropriate on data related issues

  • Create an efficient data management schedule in line with field support activity and One Health actors 

•    MSc degree in Bio-statistics, Epidemiology, bioinformatics, public health epidemiology  or any other related field of study.
•    7  years and above demonstrated  experience  working on antimicrobial resistance and/or One Health in a public health or related setting.

•    Strong understanding of AMR in a  One Health approach and its application. 
•    Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. 
•    Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders. 
•    Excellent writing and editing skills. 
•    Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). 
•    Experience with data analysis software is an advantage.
