ABOUT REACH, IMPACT & ACTED

REACH was created in 2010 as a joint initiative of two International NGOs (IMPACT Initiatives and ACTED) and the United Nations Operational Satellite Applications Programme (UNOSAT). 

REACH’s purpose is to promote and facilitate the development of information products that enhance the humanitarian community’s decision making and planning capacity for emergency, reconstruction and development contexts. REACH facilitates information management for aid actors through three complementary services: (a) need and situation assessments facilitated by REACH teams; (b) situation analysis using satellite imagery; (c) provision of related database and (web)-mapping facilities and expertise.

IMPACT Initiatives is a humanitarian NGO, based in Geneva, Switzerland. The organization manages several initiatives, including the REACH Initiative. REACH’s field interventions benefit from ACTED’s operational support. REACH/ACTED staff span across regions in Ethiopia, with a central office in Addis Ababa.

JOB PURPOSE 

Under the supervision of the REACH Senior Assessment officer, the Assessment Assistant will support a research unit within REACH Ethiopia mission with all aspects of research design, data collection, data processing, data analysis, and the creation of information products. The Assessment Assistant will use their technical experience, subject matter knowledge, and creative thinking skills to improve ways of working within the unit.

FUNCTIONS

Under the supervision of the REACH Senior Assessment officer, the Assessment Assistant will be supporting the processes and outputs related to REACH Assessments, products and data, across multiple REACH Research Cycles in Ethiopia.

The REACH Assessment Assistant will perform the following functions:

           FUNCTION 1: CONTRIBUTION TO THE ENTIRE RESEARCH CYCLE

  • Understanding key research cycles and how this research contributes to strategic response objectives.

  • Support in research design, data collection and analysis. 

  • Support to ensure the quality and accuracy of data collected as per REACH minimum standards.

    FUNCTION 2: DEVELOPMENT OF RESEARCH PRODUCTS  

  • Contribute to the understanding of survey findings and identify the best reporting technique for selected indicators, including factsheets and reports.

  • Ensure that the developed products meet the requirements of IMPACT and concerned partners.

  • Ensure the drafting of timely and accurate research products, which comply with IMPACT’s guidelines.

    FUNCTION 3: PRODUCT DISSEMINATION AND EVALUATION

  • Support Assessment officers in the dissemination of research products in line with IMPACT Guidelines and Research ToRs

  • Maintain the strictest confidentiality of data and related processes. He/she will actively take measures to prevent the unauthorized sharing of information and data.

  • Under supervision of Senior Assessment officer, ensure that research products are uploaded to relevant data repository

  • Under the supervision of the Senior Assessment officer, ensure that lessons learned are gathered and documented at the end of each research cycle.

  • Other tasks as requested by immediate supervisor.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Excellent academic qualifications with a bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline such as international studies, development, humanitarian response, data science or political science.

  • Excellent team working skills

  • Excellent verbal and written communication and drafting skills for effective reporting is required.

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Software skills. Proven knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

  • Ability to operate in a cross-cultural environment requiring flexibility

  • Language skills Fluency in English required

  • Ability to think creatively and use initiative to develop new tools and processes

DESIRABLE

  • Experience in humanitarian projects and/or organizations

  • Knowledge and skills in Area based approaches

  • Experience in geographical region Past experience in the mentioned regions.
