Overview ofthe SewMehon Consortium
The Sew Mehon – Alliance of Ethiopian Local CSOs is a dynamic and inclusive consortium formed in 2023 to promote gender equality, peacebuilding, and human rights through grassroots empowerment. The Alliance is composed of three founding member organizations:
Eurika (Consortium Lead): A local, board-led CSO with extensive experience in multi-regional project implementation and strong financial and management systems. Eurika leads national coordination, capacity-building for emerging CSOs, and manages safe houses for SGBV survivors.
Nutrition for Education and Development (N4ED): A grassroots-oriented organization with strong ties to local communities, focusing on child development, women empowerment, and gender equity. N4ED co-leads activities on community mobilization, capacity-building for emerging CSOs, and SGBV response.
Innovative Development Solutions (IDS): A new CSOestablished in 2023 in post- war Tigray. IDS plays a crucial role in expanding the Alliance’s work in northern Ethiopia and leading inter-regional collaboration between Tigray and other regions.
Together, these partners implement the “Joint Action to Promote Equality, Peace, and Healing in Ethiopia” project across six diverse regions—Amhara, South Ethiopia, Harari, Benishangul-Gumuz, Tigray, and Addis Ababa. They work through a democratic, rotating leadership model, and uphold core values of neutrality, inclusiveness, local ownership, and horizontal decision-making.
Through this project, the consortium empowers local civil society by identifying and supporting new and emerging grassroots actors, enhancing their leadership and organizational capacity, and forming a national network of 18 community- based groups. Through innovative tools like comic books, inspirational storytelling, and digital campaigns, the Alliance also fosters positive social narratives and peacebuilding dialogue across Ethiopia. Finally in three of the six regions, the consortium members will lead specific action to support SGBV survivors.
