About Rehabilitation and Development Organization (RaDO)

Rehabilitation and Development Organization (RaDO) is a National NGO working on the area of Rehabilitation of Persons with Disabilities, Reproductive Health and HIV/AIDS, Gender Based Violence (GBV). Currently, it is operational in the Somalia, Sudanese, Eritrean refugee camps Tigray and Afar located in Ethiopia.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform detailed eye examination, including testing of refraction and visual acuity and assessing the health of the eye.
  • Treat and manage common eye diseases and disorders.
  • Prescribe and dispense optical lenses—spectacles and contact.
  • Educate patients on their eye health, preventive care, and how to manage eye diseases.
  • Develop and maintain updated patient records.
  • Work closely with the RaDO and CBM project teams in the design and delivery of capacity-building activities.
  • Train and mentor ophthalmic assistants and nurses on protocols and procedures regarding care of the eyes.
  • Develop and implement plans for improving the efficiency and effectiveness of eye care.
  • Support and participate in data collection and analysis for the monitoring and evaluation of project outcomes.
  • Participate in any activities aimed at researching eye health within the region.
  • Collaborate with RaDO and CBM project staff to ensure the clinical services are in line with the project objectives.
  • Attend project meetings, discussions, and planning sessions.
  • Contribute to the development of project reports and documentation.

Qualifications & skills:

  • Bachelor of science in optometry with at least five years of experience and with
  • Master of science in optometry with at least three years of clinical experience or
  • Actively practicing eye care services in secondary eye units or tertiary eye units till the present dates
  • Knowledge of customer service principles and practices.
  • Possession of strong problem-solving skills and sound judgment.
  • Proficient in computers and relevant software applications and practice management technology.
  • Ability to achieve team goals while demonstrating organizational values and utilizing resources responsibly.
  • Ability to be proactive and take initiative.
  • Possession of strong organizational skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, as well as exceptional interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate across departments and build effective relationships with internal and external customers to achieve goals.
  • Exhibit high level of quality through attention to detail and monitoring of work.
  • Ability to work independently on assigned tasks as well as to accept direction on given assignments.
  • Deals with confidential information and/or issues using discretion and judgment.

Preferred experience:

  • Practical Experience in cataract outreach program and campaign coordination.
  • Previous working experience in eye care service organization, Health background organization or NGO work experience.
  • Short term training on special optometry training.
